…. ISB has developed an infrastructure that facilitates our systems approach. A fundamental tenet of systems biology is that solving challenging biological problems requires the development of new technologies in order to explore new dimensions of data space, and the development of new data types requires the pioneering of new analytical tools. This necessitates a cross-disciplinary environment where biologists, chemists, computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, physicists and physicians are all brought together — and learn one another’s science languages so they can work together effectively in teams. This virtuous cycle, or innovation cycle, generates intellectual property that can be spun off as companies. Our collaborations span across lab groups at ISB as well as at partnering institutions. Our entrepreneurship has commercialized technologies that yielded 17 spin-out companies since 2000. The spirit of collaboration is a driving force and core value at ISB. – See more at:
